Karate Champ is an action fighting game for one or two players. The players compete against each other at nine different locations to see who has the best karate skills! To win a match, the player must win two of three rounds by knocking down his opponent with a wide variety of karate moves. A full point or half a point is awarded for knocking your opponent down and the first player to gain a two point lead wins the round. Should the 30 second time limit for a round end, the player who has the most points wins. At the end of each match is a bonus round where the victor can earn extra points by knocking down flying objects that are tossed his way.

Trivia
Arcade publishers Data East sued System 3, claiming International Karate was a complete rip-off. It also used the same forward kicking (street) karate style.

Description from the packaging:

Sharpen your split-second reflexes, focus your concentration skills, and put on your black belt. Your karate championship is at stake. Can you master all the lunges, kicks, spins, somersaults, foot sweeps, reverse punches, and defensive blocks needed to retain your title? Only the quick-witted will survive. So, move fast. Play smart or else you'll get flattened before you can grunt. Compete against a friend, or challenge the computer. Nine different picturesque settings (plus three especially challenging bonus screens!) provide the backdrops for your matches. One last warning! If you do earn the right to a bonus round, watch out for that rampaging bull! Only a sharp blow between the eyes will stop his stampeding charge right at your belly! Hiiiieeeeoooo!
